This Google Phone update makes Calling Cards worth using

Summary

Set once, share with everyone

Calling Cards is one of the most visually appealing changes that Google has rolled out to its Phone app in recent years. It puts the contact pictures front and center, making the incoming call screen feel more personal. Unlike Apple's implementation, though, Google required you to manually create a Calling Card for each contact.

That's now changing, with the company rolling out the ability to create your own Calling Card. Google rolled out Calling Cards in the Google Phone app in late August 2025. Since then, it has improved the feature by adding more customization options. However, it never addressed its biggest limitation: you had to create a Calling Card for each contact individually.

There was no way to create your own card and share it with others in your phonebook. There were signs of the company working on such a feature, and it seems to have begun rolling out the change to Phone app beta users. Several Pixel users on Reddit report seeing a new "Create your calling card" option in the Google Phone app.

Tapping "Get started" lets you customize your calling card, which others will see whenever you place or receive a call. You must first link your Google account to customize your Calling Card. After that, pick a photo from Google Photos, your phone’s gallery, or take a new one. You can also personalize the text by adjusting the font’s width, weight, roundness, and color.

Share your personalized caller ID I am already seeing the option to create my own Calling Card in the latest Google Phone app beta on my Pixel 8 Pro running the latest Android 17 beta build. The feature doesn’t appear on my other devices, even though they have the same Google Phone app version installed, suggesting the rollout is tied to a server-side push.

While the ability to set up your own Calling Card may seem like a small change, it will bring Google's implementation closer to Apple's Contact Poster. The latter has allowed users to personalize their caller ID since iOS 17. More importantly, it removes the hassle of creating a Calling Card for each contact.
