Published 31 July 2026

How to keep your personal information safe in fintech apps: verified licensing, strong passwords, two-factor authentication, safe logins and public Wi-Fi precautions.

Transcript

How to keep your personal information safe when using fintech.

Start by using fintech apps that you have verified are licensed and regulated or work with a regulated financial institution. Then use a strong, unique password and turn on two-factor authentication.

Only log into the app through the official website, and avoid clicking any payment links sent to you via email, text or social media. Never share your password, PIN or verification code with anyone, even if they claim to be from the company or app, and keep your phone and app updated to the latest operating system.

Avoid logging in to the app or website using public Wi-Fi. If you absolutely have to use public Wi-Fi, make sure you're using a trusted, paid VPN.

Protecting your information starts with choosing trusted providers and using them carefully.

About this episode

Protecting your personal information starts before you even open an app: use fintech apps you've verified are licensed and regulated, or that work with a regulated financial institution. From there, a strong, unique password and two-factor authentication form the baseline every account handling money should have.

How you use the app day to day matters just as much. Log in only through the official app or website rather than a link sent by email, text or social media, and never share a password, PIN or verification code with anyone — even someone claiming to be from the company. Keeping the phone and app updated to the latest operating system closes off known security gaps.

Public Wi-Fi is a common weak point: avoid logging in over it, and if there's truly no alternative, use a trusted, paid VPN. Underneath all of it is the same principle — protecting your information starts with choosing trusted providers and using them carefully.

Key takeaways

  • Use fintech apps that are verified as licensed and regulated, or that work with a regulated financial institution.
  • Set a strong, unique password and turn on two-factor authentication.
  • Log in only through the official app or website — never via payment links from email, text or social media — and never share a password, PIN or verification code with anyone.
  • Keep the phone and app updated, and avoid public Wi-Fi unless using a trusted, paid VPN.
