What Is Remote Key Injection
Payment terminals require cryptographic keys to safeguard cardholder data before they can process transactions. Traditionally, these keys are installed at a secure facility before devices ship to merchants — a process that adds expense, logistical overhead, and time.
Remote key injection eliminates that step by delivering cryptographic keys to terminals over a secure channel. Devices can be shipped straight to their destination and activated faster, reducing deployment friction.
Who Can Use the Service
The hosted RKI offering will be accessible to processors, independent sales organisations, independent software vendors, merchants, distributors, and channel partners operating in the US and Canada.
Newland NPT said the partnership broadens its North American payments portfolio, which already includes Android SmartPOS terminals, the PayExplorer EMV payment application, the PayExplorer SDK for semi-integrated payment solutions, and its terminal operational management system.
Why Security Matters
Security is a foundational element of our North American growth strategy, said Heather Hatch, Newland NPT's head of Solutions and Business Support. > By partnering with Futurex, we're accelerating our ability to deliver a secure, scalable remote key injection platform that complements our Android SmartPOS portfolio, PayExplorer payment application, and terminal management solutions.
She added that the partnership brings a more complete payments ecosystem to customers while cutting deployment complexity and improving time-to-market.
Newland NPT's payment security solutions are designed to meet PCI security standards, including PCI DSS, PCI P2PE, and PCI PIN.
Reducing Deployment Friction
Remote key injection removes one of the most persistent friction points in terminal deployment, but it only works if security and compliance are absolute, said Jason Way, VP of Payment Cryptography Services at Futurex.
He explained that the hosted platform gives Newland NPT and its partners a compliant, scalable method to inject and manage keys across terminal fleets — lowering field service costs and supporting expansion across North America.
Recent Newland NPT Moves
The company recently partnered with Polskie ePłatności (PeP) to roll out the Newland N950K Android payment terminal in Poland, extending its reach in European markets.
