Paskelbta 2026 m. spalio 16 d.

Transkripcija

Why is my bank asking where my money came from?

You sold your car, you received the payment, and now your bank wants to know where your money came from. Why?

Seeing a transfer tells the bank who sent it, but it doesn't necessarily tell the bank what it was for.

The bank may ask for something showing that the car was sold, such as a sales agreement.

That helps it understand the payment and check that the money came from a legitimate activity.

Being asked for evidence doesn't automatically mean that you've done anything wrong, it just means the bank is making extra checks.

Apie šį epizodą

You sell your car, the buyer pays you, and a few days later your bank gets in touch asking where the money came from. It can feel like an accusation. It usually isn't.

Seeing a transfer tells the bank who sent the money, but it doesn't necessarily tell the bank what the money was for. A large payment that doesn't fit your usual activity leaves a gap, and the bank is expected to understand the payments that pass through its customers' accounts.

So it may ask for something that fills the gap, such as a sales agreement showing the car was sold. That helps it understand the payment and check that the money came from a legitimate activity. Being asked for evidence doesn't automatically mean you've done anything wrong; it just means the bank is making extra checks.
