Funding Round Details

San Francisco-based tax compliance platform Numeral closed a $100 million Series C round, pushing its total capital raised to $157.5 million since its 2023 launch.

Insight Partners led the financing, with backing from Salesforce Ventures, Geodesic, Benchmark, Mayfield, FCVC, Y Combinator, and Uncork.

Platform Capabilities and Growth

Numeral's platform handles the operational side of sales tax compliance — nexus monitoring, registrations, filings, rate calculations, remittance, exemption certificate tracking, and virtual mailbox services. Beyond US sales tax, the company supports VAT and GST obligations across more than 90 countries.

The startup reported a 327% year-over-year jump in total transaction volume and anticipates processing over 80 million transactions through its tax engine.

Use of Proceeds

The fresh capital will fund product development, sector-specific expansions, and headcount growth. Numeral is also rolling out an accounting partner program that lets firms refer clients, resell the platform, deliver services on top of it, or guide implementations while staying embedded in clients' tax decision-making.

Sales tax has become a much bigger operational challenge as companies grow across markets, systems and business models. Businesses need infrastructure that can keep pace as rules and requirements change across jurisdictions, without adding more manual work for their teams.

Co-founder and CEO Sam Ross emphasised the company's commitment to building a reliable foundation backed by tax expertise and customer service.

Agentic AI Approach

Numeral is deploying agentic AI to shoulder more of the compliance workload traditionally managed by internal tax teams and accounting firms, while keeping tax professionals available for complex edge cases.

Our customers want to know that their tax obligations are being handled accurately while still having access to a person when a complex issue comes up. That expectation shapes how we build the platform and how we support each customer.

As the company moves into additional industries and serves larger enterprises, it plans to continue investing in both the underlying technology and the tax expertise that supports it.
