OpenAI Targets $30B Raise at $1.4T Valuation After Delaying IPO

The AI company is looking to secure as much as $30 billion in new capital, according to Bloomberg sources. The target valuation stands at approximately $1.4 trillion before factoring in the fresh funds.

This valuation would position OpenAI ahead of competitor Anthropic's latest private market price. Industry sources indicate investor appetite is driving the fundraising effort, fueled by the company's strong revenue momentum.

Both AI giants are locked in fierce competition to capture enterprise clients and boost top-line growth ahead of their eventual stock market debuts. Each has submitted confidential IPO documentation, with Anthropic's listing potentially arriving as early as November.

Anthropic's public debut could establish the pricing yardstick for subsequent AI laboratory offerings. SpaceX currently holds the benchmark with its June listing at a $1.77 trillion valuation — a record Anthropic aims to surpass.

CEO Sam Altman confirmed the company will not pursue a public offering this year. Speaking to Bloomberg TV Tuesday, he cited growing safety considerations around AI technology as the primary reason for postponing the listing.

"We just want to get our feet under us and make sure we understand how to operate in this new way, [and] be able to make some of these decisions in front of us without the pressure of being a newly public company," Altman said, adding that he expects investors to remain patient during preparations.

The startup is adapting to what Altman described as a "new level" of AI capability that demands heightened safety protocols.

OpenAI is generating annualized revenue approaching $70 billion, marking a 70% increase since the start of its third quarter, Axios reported Tuesday. The company has not disclosed expense figures, making profitability difficult to assess.

The company unveiled AI agents called "dots" Tuesday, describing them as "built to handle everything." The agents run on OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra model.
