Partnership Overview
Identity and location intelligence company GBG has joined forces with behavioral intelligence specialist Darwinium to help businesses assess whether verified individuals and AI agents behave consistently with legitimate customer intent.
The collaboration aims to address a growing challenge: even when identities check out, the activity itself may signal fraud risk. This becomes especially critical as AI agents increasingly handle transactions and tasks on behalf of customers.
Why Identity Verification Alone Falls Short
Stopping fraud requires more than confirming someone's identity at a single checkpoint. Scammers often manipulate legitimate customers into executing fraudulent actions on their behalf — a threat likely to escalate as AI agents become more prevalent in digital commerce.
Darwinium's platform continuously analyzes behavioral, device, and journey signals to flag when activity diverges from either the customer's genuine intent or an AI agent's authorized mandate. Paired with GBG's identity verification capabilities, the integration gives GBG's 20,000+ customers worldwide a fuller view of fraud risk across both human and automated interactions.
Detecting AI Agents in the Browser
GBG has built an incredibly strong foundation of global identity and local intelligence. Darwinium complements that by adding the behavioral context around an identity, said Darwinium Chief Operating Officer Michael Rodriguez.
He emphasized that the combination becomes especially powerful in what the industry calls the "agentic era" — when businesses must distinguish trusted customers using trusted agents from fraudsters and malicious automation without simply blocking all AI-driven traffic.
Darwinium's technology, which the company demoed at FinovateFall 2026, probabilistically distinguishes humans from AI agents by analyzing agent-to-browser interaction signals that agents struggle to suppress. This helps financial institutions spot agents fraudulently impersonating customers while allowing genuine users to proceed without friction.
GBG's Global Reach and Capabilities
Publicly traded on the London Stock Exchange, GBG combines global identity data and location technology to help companies defend against fraud and digital crime. The firm's platform provides identity data verification, document authentication, and biometric verification, supporting responsible growth at scale.
Founded in 1989 and based in Chester, GBG also announced this month a referral partnership with geolocation compliance platform GeoLocs, which will introduce its operator clients to GBG's identity verification and fraud prevention tools.
Context Beyond Identity
Identity remains fundamental to digital trust. As AI agents become an increasingly important part of the customer experience, businesses also need the context to understand what is happening after identity has been established, said GBG Chief Product & Technology Officer Gus Tomlinson.
By integrating Darwinium's behavioral and intent intelligence with GBG's identity and location capabilities, customers gain a more complete view of trust across the entire journey. The combined approach lets businesses understand not just who someone is, but how they — or an AI agent acting for them — are actually behaving, enabling more informed fraud decisions while preserving fast, low-friction digital experiences.
San Francisco–based Darwinium was founded in 2021.
