Partnership Details and Rationale
US-based payment orchestration platform Gr4vy announced a partnership with global financial infrastructure company Unlimit on 8 October 2026, enabling enterprise merchants to tap into locally preferred payment methods across multiple continents without altering their existing technical setup.
The deal addresses a core challenge for businesses expanding internationally: payment preferences, currencies, and processing requirements differ sharply by market, and building dedicated integrations for each region is both expensive and slow. Gr4vy customers can now access Unlimit's acquiring network and local payment rails through the platform's existing single integration layer.
Regional Payment Methods Covered
The partnership brings a wide array of payment methods into Gr4vy's reach across four major regions:
- Latin America: Pix and PicPay in Brazil, OXXO and Efectivo for cash-based markets in Mexico, Mercado Pago wallet network
- Africa: M-Pesa mobile money across Kenya and sub-Saharan markets, Airtel Money
- Asia-Pacific: WeChat Pay, GrabPay, and UPI covering China, South-East Asia, and India
- Europe: MB WAY for Portugal and SEPA Instant payments
John Lunn, founder and chief executive of Gr4vy, said the partnership gives customers "the flexibility to add the local payment methods they need as they expand internationally, without rebuilding their financial stack." Irene Skrynova, chief executive of global payments at Unlimit, characterised payments as "fundamentally local," citing customer preferences, currencies and processing requirements as sources of complexity for internationally expanding businesses.
Competitive Landscape and Market Positioning
Payment orchestration has evolved into a mature category with multiple well-funded European and US competitors, all offering a single integration that routes transactions across various payment service providers. The core technology has become increasingly commoditised, shifting competitive advantage toward the breadth and geographic coverage of available payment methods.
Unlimit's network reportedly extends to more than 180 countries with licences in 97 jurisdictions, positioning it among the most geographically extensive independent payment networks. The inclusion of Pix carries particular weight: Brazil's central bank-operated instant payment scheme processed over 60 billion transactions in 2024 and has become essential infrastructure for any serious Latin American e-commerce operation.
Regulatory Considerations
The partnership carries regulatory implications across several markets. UPI cross-border expansion depends on agreements between the National Payments Corporation of India and host-country regulators, while SEPA Instant is entering a mandatory phase for eurozone payment service providers under the EU's updated instant payments regulation.
For Gr4vy, partnering with a licensed counterparty like Unlimit reduces the direct regulatory burden on the orchestration layer itself, allowing the platform to access multiple markets without securing separate licences in each jurisdiction.
What Comes Next
The partnership announcement did not disclose commercial terms, transaction volume targets, or named launch customers beyond Unlimit's existing client roster, which includes Xiaomi, Telegram, and Convera.
The near-term test will be whether the combined offering accelerates merchant onboarding in markets such as Brazil and India, where local payment method adoption has historically been the primary friction point for international entrants.
