Dual Expansion Moves in Canada
Hong Kong fintech holding company Payment Asia Group announced two strategic developments supporting its North American growth. The firm's Canadian subsidiary, AlphaPay, finalised the acquisition and integration of Motion Pay, a fellow Canadian payment service provider. Alongside the deal, Payment Asia Group obtained a Money Services Business licence from Canadian regulators.
The MSB licence strengthens the company's regulatory footing as it scales payment operations and cross-border services across Canada and the broader North American region. Payment Asia Group characterised the Motion Pay transaction as a pivotal moment in its international expansion roadmap.
Motion Pay Integration Strengthens Merchant Platform
The acquisition combines Motion Pay's merchant base, operational know-how, and Canadian market footprint with AlphaPay's technology platform. Payment Asia Group said the merged entity will deliver enhanced support for merchants spanning multiple industries in Canada.
AlphaPay operates a unified access platform covering major global payment methods—international digital wallets such as WeChat Pay, Alipay, and UnionPay, plus local systems including Visa, Mastercard, Interac, and Apple Pay. The combined business aims to upgrade merchant-service capabilities, platform features, and payment infrastructure for both domestic transactions and cross-border commerce.
Addressing Merchant Demands for Security and Scale
Payment Asia Group said merchants face mounting requirements for security, compliance, and scalability as the global payment landscape shifts. The firm positioned the integration as a response to those challenges, promising merchants a single gateway to handle diverse payment methods and regulatory environments.
AlphaPay plans to continue investing in technology, compliance infrastructure, and merchant support as it expands throughout Canada and North America following the deal.
Building a Cross-Border Payment Ecosystem
Payment Asia Group founder and chairman Kenneth Lai described the developments as a significant milestone. "AlphaPay's completion of the Motion Pay acquisition and integration, together with Payment Asia Group's recent Canadian MSB licence, represents an important step in our North American growth journey," Lai said.
"These milestones align with our vision of building a connected, compliant cross-border payment ecosystem that empowers merchants to thrive in an increasingly globalised marketplace," he added.
