New Payment Switching Capability

U.S. Bank has introduced Payment Switch, a feature enabling customers to transfer recurring bill payments to their U.S. Bank debit or credit cards from within the mobile app. The tool eliminates the need to update payment credentials at each merchant's website or app individually.

Through the Bills & Subscriptions dashboard, users can manage payments for services including streaming platforms, mobile phone bills, and utilities. The feature is available to both new and existing customers as part of the bank's broader Bank Smartly digital ecosystem.

Dashboard Features and Controls

The Bills & Subscriptions dashboard consolidates all recurring payments in a single view, giving customers visibility into upcoming charges and spending patterns. The system flags when a recurring payment amount changes from previous months, helping users catch price increases before they process.

The Bills & Subscriptions dashboard shows upcoming charges, identifies spend patterns and provides insight if a recurring payment changes from prior months – helping customers catch increases, avoid surprises and decide what subscriptions they want to keep, the company said.

Cardholders can also cancel eligible subscriptions directly through the app. By integrating account opening, direct deposit switching, and recurring payment management, the bank addresses multiple friction points that traditionally prevent consumers from changing their primary banking relationship.

Atomic Partnership and Integration

U.S. Bank developed Payment Switch in collaboration with Atomic, a Utah-based fintech that provides banks with tools for bill payments, subscription management, and deposit switching. This marks an expansion of their existing partnership — Atomic already powers the bank's automated direct deposit setup.

Payment Switch is the third component of U.S. Bank Easy Switch, the institution's comprehensive solution for helping customers move their banking relationship. The approach reflects a broader industry shift where banks compete on convenience and integrated experiences rather than rates and rewards alone.

Atomic Expansion and Funding

Founded in 2019, Atomic has grown its market presence through several strategic partnerships in 2026. In August, the company partnered with TD Bank to launch Canada's first fully integrated, in-app payroll direct deposit switching experience.

That same month, Atomic expanded its partnership with Plaid to make its PayDetect transaction intelligence tool available to financial institutions using Plaid's existing connectivity. Earlier in the year, the company partnered with Personetics to enable contextual direct deposit and bill payment switching within digital banking experiences.

Atomic raised $10 million in strategic funding in 2025, bringing its total funding to nearly $79 million.
